People often ask which came first, the painting or the photography. It was not until after art school over 30 years ago that I started to take photographs as subject matter for my paintings, and fell in love with photography. It turns out my love of photography runs in the family. My father served as air force ground crew while stationed in the Pacific theatre during World War II, and during that time he photographed the B24 Liberators and their crews, processing his own film and making prints in a makeshift darkroom. |
After receiving my scuba certification in 1994,
it was only natural to want to take my camera underwater and photograph the
amazing beauty I saw while diving on coral reefs. I started out shooting
underwater with 35mm film cameras including the Nikonos V, a completely
aquatic camera, then I switched to a Nikon SLR in a waterproof housing. When
digital started coming on strong, I sold all of my film cameras and made the
switch to an 8 megapixel Olympus E300 digital SLR. I have taken
thousands of photos of marine life which provide endless inspiration for my
paintings. And, it turns out that I took some pretty good photos in the
process, so I offer the most popular ones as fine art prints on photo paper and
canvas. I also market over 5,000 images in digital form as stock photography for business use. Visit my 35mm film website, CDIslands.com, and my digital photography website, TropicalPictures.net. |
